In partner with Women In Technology International (WITI), and sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, SWEP is proud to announce our next event: "Environmental Sustainability - How It's Making a Difference in Business and Institutions."

Please join us for a panel discussion on how and if environmental sustainability is making a real difference in local businesses and institutions. Our panelists will provide case studies and insights on how sustainability efforts have affected their businesses. Panelists include:
- Alicia Ravetto, Architect, AIA LEED AP (environmentally sensitive architecture);

- Allison Carpenter, The Louis Berger Group, Bike & Pedestrian Planning;

- Amy Armbruster, Triangle Transit Authority, Transportation Planning; and

- Holly Fling, Cherokee, Sustainable Planning and Development.
 

The event will be moderated by SWEP's very own Stephanie Minker!

TRANSIT:   Is Wake County Ready for It?

A public forum to discuss the future of transit in Wake County and the Triangle
Thursday, June 26, 2008,  7 – 9:30 pm (register 6:30 pm)

Downtown Housing Improvement Corp., North Carolina Conservation Network, Raleigh-Wake Citizens Association, Sierra Club Capital Group, WakeUP Wake County, Women in Transportation Seminar – NC Triangle Chapter
 

Forum highlights:

  • Keynote speaker: Carol Coletta, CEO - CEO for Cities and host of NPR syndicated program, Smart Cities, and national urbanism expert

    “By choice or by chance.  How can transit help us plan for a future growth?”

  • Discussion by community business leaders on how transit can provide economic opportunities for Wake County
  • Overview of new proposal for regional transit in Wake and the Triangle
  • NC Gubernatorial Candidates invited to present views on transit


The purpose of the forum is to discuss the opportunities and potential of transit in Wake County and the Triangle.  Please come learn, ask questions and participate in the community discussion!

SWEP Leadership Opportunities for 2008/2009

SWEP is currently looking for members interested in helping us develop and promote our 2008/2009 event series "Working Women Want to Know." We will be holding an Open House Informational Meeting on Tuesday, April 15th at 7:00pm at Duke University at the Levine Science Research Center (LSRC), Room A158 (see directions attached). This is a great opportunity to get to know more of your SWEP peers and become more involved with your organization. Remember, this is your organization and we are looking for member support to help ensure SWEP meets your expectations.
